Programme is aimed at: Individuals with very little or no book-keeping experience and who are interested in acquiring the necessary skills to maintain a MANUAL book-keeping system for a small business.

Objective: On successful completion of the 4 modules, participants should be equipped with adequate knowledge to meet revenue and legal requirements, together with a system of monitoring their business financial performance - essential for managing any business.

Brief Outline of Programme Content:

  • Introduction to book-keeping terminology and concepts
  • Preparing Sales Invoices
  • Complete the basic books of account, ie sales book, purchase book, cash book, petty cashbook.
  • Complete bank reconciliations
  • Complete final accounts, ie Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet
  • Understanding allowable business costs
  • Complete Cashflow Statements
  • Understanding VAT and preparing VAT returns
  • Understanding PAYE, PRSI and Levies calculations and completing P30 returns
  • Introduction to Income Tax & Preliminary Tax for a Sole Trader
  • Includes many practical examples and exercises

A combination of presentation slides and a selection of practical day-to- day examples and exercises will be presented in Excel. Practical book-keeping Excel templates will be made available to each participant.
